After a year, Chetnanigans has improved on the first product we created…introducing the new Hairpin Lace Loom – FA! We originally the “FA” in stood for “First Anniversary”, but based upon one of our customer’s comments, it now stands for “Flipping Awesome!”
The key improvement of our new design is the weight. Overall it is close in weight as our original all-wood loom, What is of significant difference is the improvements we made regarding the weight distribution. By altering the distribution, you will notice the key benefit immediately, it feels lighter in your hands! Once you get started, this loom flies in your fingers. Imagine that you can now do a strip with 300 loops a side in less than two hours! The original Chetnanigans red oak loom (still available) was literally our first product and helped us launch Chetnanigans as the premier crochet solutions store.
In comparison to the original, the FA edition is more stable and consistent throughout the lace-making process. We “trimmed up” the bar width by 1/4″, making the bars on the new FA more streamlined than the original and easier to manage. Due to the consistency of the rod widths, there’s no need for grommets. The science behind this is how unavoidably fluctuations in humidity can affect wood. With our new design, changes in humidity may minimally affect the red oak bars and not the rods! These aluminum rods will not swell on those sticky, hot summer days or shrink and loosen in the dry air of winter!
Two other terrific features of this loom. First is the ability to utilize nearly the entire 15″ length of the rods as the bars will remain firmly in place and your loom can literally be pushed to its furthest limits. Second is the significant reduction in slippage (even if you are making a 70″ HPL scarf…which we did!).
As always, this product is made in our little shop in Midlothian, Virginia, and we hope that you like your new Hairpin Lace Loom – FA Edition and much as we enjoyed designing it.
